The number 1 most common complaint I hear about this election is that it hasn't been advertised and isn't as well known as it should be. Well guess what? As I'm broker than ever before it won't be advertised again this year. Unless, of course others want to spread the word.
The number 2 complaint I get is that to the casual observer it would appear previous winners don't post poetry to their blogs. That was okay with me as I knew all 3 posted poetry to online forums and ezines but this year rather than field-off the complaints I've instituted rule #1.
And to deal with other complaints I've instituted rule #9.
I guess the Poet Laureate of the Blogosphere isn't all that big a deal as previous winners are yet to be household names but like so much of what is done here on the Blogsboro Network it's designed to shine some light on a few who have worked hard and seldom received the recognition they deserve.
Update: Speaking of shining more light, the winner will be given the chance to be interviewed at Living In Poetry.
Polls Closed, Results Final
Apr 29, 2007 at 11:55PM We have a winner in the election of the 2007 Poet Laureate Of The Blogosphere.
On Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 9:41 PM I took the following screen shot. It's possible but not fair to continue voting but the results are now final and Amy King of AmyKing.org is hereby crowned the 2007 Poet Laureate Of The Blogosphere with 229 votes to runner-up Collin Kelly at 163. Accolades are due to Amy, Collin and all of the poets who were nominated in what is really a popularity contest more so than an actual reflection of the works of all of these wonderful poets.

Note: I tried weaving 2005 winner Jilly Dybka a kudzu crown from kudzu I pulled from the shoulder of NC. 68 but the odor forced me to trash it.
Amy will serve for one year and her responsibilities are to promote poets and poetry throughout the Internet and the Blogosphere-- a job she has done well for several years as the editor of MiPOesias.com.
The process of electing the 3rd annual Poet Laureate of the Blogosphere was less than perfect. Rightly or wrongly it is a popularity contest. As the creator, founder and administrator of the nomination and election process I accept the blame for any mistakes made. In previous years people have complained that not enough people knew about the election. The same was true this year but until enough bloggers take it on their own to help promote the election the problem will remain. I can only hope that with each passing year the results will continue to be better than before.
As for my critics... Shove it! I'm doing the best I know how.
As in years past there was some tension. Write-in candidates could not be accepted as there is no way to verify write-in votes and reconfiguring the 3rd party polling would have required deleting all of the previous votes-- something I consider unfair to the nominees and their supporters.
We had some fun, we had some fights and we made a few new friends. I consider the election of Amy King as the 2007 Poet Laureate Of The Blogosphere to have been a success. Congratulations Amy.
Please visit all the candidates on the list as well as the attempted write-in candidate Bill Knott. They are all great poets who deserve your attention and all will be added to my permanent blogroll and to Poetsarus.com.

I have tried to make this election as fair and open as my limited skills and lack of support and funding allows. Yes, an event like this should be advertised but I'm a starving poet without an ad budget. (Seriously, if I had an ad budget you'd see ads for Books By Billy everywhere you look.) Yes, I left out some of the nominations because I was unable to establish they met the rules. Yes, I probably made some mistakes-- I'm doing the best I know how and it's now too late to fix them. Perhaps others would like to step up and help for the 4th Annual Poet Laureate Of The Blogosphere election next year.
Support for the 2007 Poet Laureate of the Blogosphere comes from BloggingPoet-Shoppes.com highlighting the long tail of books, art, and music.

Apr 6, 2007 at 07:12AM Previous winners cannot win. Previous winners are Jilly Dybka and Ron Silliman.

Blogging poets and poetry bloggers must have been blogging and posting poetry online for at least one year.
English language only as I'm too dumb to know a poem in any other language.
All nominations are to be made in the comment box below. You must leave the URL to the poet's blog beginning with http:// in order for them to be added to the ballot. (In other words, don't expect me to know who you're talking about.)

Ron Silliman, 2006 Poet Laureate Of The Blogosphere
May 1, 2006 at 12:17AM Congratulations to Ron Sillman for his victory and to Asharf Osman for coming in a close second. And congratuations to the ten other nominees who are all great poets and all as deserving of the title as was our winner.
While this is but a tiny honor and a tiny event it is the hope of myself and others that the Poet Laureate Of The Blogosphere will someday shine a light on deserving poets from around the world.
WE HAVE A WINNER!
May 15, 2005 at 07:58PM Well the end has finally come and it’s time to announce the winner of the 2005 First Annual, Poet Laureate of the Blogosphere competition. This competition is important as it is a historic occasion: the first democratically elected poet Laureate in the history of the world. Unlike our recent state and Federal elections this election saw little if any controversy. At least, I didn’t hear of any.
I wish more had voted but the vote stands just the same. I’d like there to be a big check and lots of fanfare that goes along with the win but the Kudzu Crown will have to suffice. Maybe next year things will be bigger, better, and profitable for our Blogging Poet Laureate.
Ladies and gentlemen, bloggers and citizens of the world, please allow me to introduce you to Jilly Dybkla, Poet Laureate Of The Blogosphere, and writer of the Poetry Hut Blog Congradulations Jilly, I’ll bet folks over in your neck of the woods are smiling and cheering for you.
And for helping to make this election happen, our thanks to:
